espresso

code brown espresso

Our house espresso blend and best-selling product. Red-brown, sumptuous crema. A bit of biting brightness, sweet midrange, sturdy body. This blend cuts milk moderately well, but Code Brown is really at its best as straight shots. A very forgiving blend adaptable to many types of espresso machines and grinders.

cbx dark espresso

Another very popular blend utilizing the same Latin/African/Indonesian beans as Code Brown, but in a different ratio and roasted considerably darker. Still not a Starbuckian burnt oily mess, but very roasty and robust. Notes of bittersweet dark chocolate and dry fruit in the cup, along with a big, luscious crema in the spirit of Code Brown. This stuff goes right through milk...latte drinkers take notice. And still great straight!

tribal medicine organic espresso

This is a 75/25 mix of Ethiopian Sidamo and Sumatra Mandheling, roasted somewhere between Code Brown and CBX Dark. Due to the Ethiopian Majority, this is a fabulous straight drinker that's all about the fruit. A real cult favorite with many of our subscribers. Also try our Ethiopian Sidamo alone, as a single-origin espresso!

taste of milan espresso

Our lightest-roasted espresso blend by a fair margin. Comprised entirely of Latin American coffees (namely Brazil, Colombian and Guatemalan), Taste of Milan is an attempt at recreating the espresso of Northern Italy, where these light Latin blends are de rigueur. Not exactly *bad* in milk, but much more suited to a couple quick swigs straight from your favorite demitasse. Bright, sweet, a little sour and high-octane.

african

: : : ::new!
ethiopian dry-process sidamo

Coffee from Ethiopia is the original coffee – this country is the only place in the world where the sacred bean is a native species. It's also quite often considered the world's best coffee to this day, with a cup that displays a veritable cornucopia of wild flavors: dried fruits, leather, tobacco, earth. Much closer to the original wild varietal, these are some ugly, non-uniform beans. This mess of different sizes and densities produces more cup complexity than just about anything you'll ever drink.

kenya aa

Each year we lovingly select our Kenyas, a key ingredient of some of our famous espressos. While Kenya coffees can often be super bright and acidic, bordering on really noticeable citrus flavors, we choose bigger, rounder, more wine-like coffees from this country. It is not uncommon to find flavors as diverse as berry and tomato (!) in our Kenya AA. A perennial local favorite, our Kenya is roasted lighter than almost anything else on the list, to preserve acid and fragile flavors.

tanzania flat-bean ruvuma

One of our newer coffees and another light-roasted delicacy, our Tanzania makes a truly delicious cup. Very sweet and balanced, with a sparkling bit of tongue-cleansing acid at the finish. The name "flat-bean" simply means that this is a "normal" Tanzania bean and not the commonly seen peaberry coffee, which is more of a sorting style than an actual type.

americas

colombian gaitania tolima

Our brand-new Colombian is fantastic! Generally an origin that we roast fairly dark, this one deserves a gentler treatment. This is a powerful bean that brings to mind a great African coffee in its balance and nuance. Neither too bright nor too earthy, a little bit sweet and absolutely chuggable! We can't stop roasting this stuff!

guatemalan florencia bourbon

Another of our newer coffees, and probably the most-ordered single origin on our list. Absolute balance, sweet caramel, a little high-end bling. A very medium roast, right to the brink of second crack. Not too light, not too dark, not too bad!

nicaraguan limoncillo

Currently our darkest-roasted Latin American bean (still not that dark). This is another great balanced Central, brought to a fat, rich, toasty roast you're sure to love.

far east

sumatra mandheling

Sumatra Drinker, you know who you are. You like it dark, rotund and muddy. Ours will be your friend. It is dark. It is rotund. It is muddy.

bali natural kintamani

This is really something special. One of our newest coffees, this Bali is rather astounding stuff. Don't expect an earthy, all-body Indonesian flavor profile...more like Ethiopian. Really good Ethiopian, with so much berry it's almost a little sickening, like you're in some kind of psychedelic dreamscape.

Bali is usually a washed coffee much like Sumatra, but not this Bali. Our supplier has been working in the country to try natural curing on African beds, in more the style of an Ethiopian Harar or Sidamo (or even a few Yirgacheffes, these days). This process makes sense in the face of Balinese water scarcity, and in the interest of huge fruit! Our Kintamani has such power it's a little over the top, but keep an eye on this one...it is bound to be one of the great coffees to be found anywhere in the very near future.

decaf

: : : ::new!
mexican water-process decaf

We keep a whopping single decaf around at all times, for you after-dinner die-hards and receivers of doctor's orders. We also make sure the ones we keep around are water-processed, because there aren't any chemicals involved, and the flavor is better than any other type of decaf we've tried. These decafs are selected by our supplier as good beans initially, so good beans come out of the decaffeination process too. It's a nice, mild Latin American kind of coffee, and if you need to be off the caffeine, you can't do much better than this.

subscribe

the prescription

If you're really a fan, here's a way to save yourself a good deal of money on our delicious beans. The Prescription consists of six, twelve or eighteen shipments of your favorite single origin coffee or espresso blend, or any mix thereof.

Just like when you place a normal coffee order, we don't roast your beans until immediately before they ship. You can format the shipment frequency however you'd like, with only one absolute: our subscription shipments go out on Monday (Tuesday on postal holiday weeks).

As you can see below, the discount increases with the number of shipments you purchase. The savings for even the smallest plan is essentially equivalent to six separate pounds with free shipping, and if you order twelve or eighteen, you're saving even more than that. We've had great response to these plans. Don't be shy...you'll love it!

* Be sure to customize the shipment frequency, whether you'd like single origins or espresso, which specific espresso blend(s) you'd like, etc. - either using the empty field on our checkout page, an email, a phone call, telegraph, carrier pigeon or smoke signal.
